The Solid Fuel Burner Database

As part of the Air Plan to deliver cleaner air in Canterbury towns and cities, the first of a number of local bans on the use of open fires and solid fuel burners older than 15 years became effective in Christchurch from 1 April 2010. Similar bans applied in Kaiapoi from May 2010, in Ashburton from May 2011 and Rangiora from May 2012. Christchurch, Kaiapoi, Rangiora and Ashburton have lists of all building consents issued for the installation of fuel burners in the last 15 years.

Trouble finding your address

If your address search fails to come up with any results, grab a copy of your rates demand from your local council and find the Legal Description of your property. Type the 'Legal Description' into the address search box instead of your postal address to search the Solid Burner Register.

Other options to try.

  • If your address format is not just a number, (for example 10 Flat 1 Random Street) try using the other possible options like 10a 10/1.
  • Alternatively try searching using just the street number, for example 10 Random Street.

Why is this happening?

Unfortunately there is no addressing standard in New Zealand that is linked directly to land parcels and valuations of those land parcels. These records are held under different separate databases and local authorities. We strive to maintain the best match possible, but this match is not 100% of all parcels / addresses in Canterbury.
